PLEASE READ 'BOTOX' POISONING. Botulinum Toxin (BT). In the UK, BT by Law is PRESCRIPTION ONLY. We all know this is true. Responsible practioners would only treat clients with BT supplied from a UK pharmacy. It is no secret that this isn't the case and many individuals administer 'bought botulinum' off prescription and unlicensed into unwitting clients. The client has no idea they are being injected with an illegal product. Illegal BT can be bought for as little as £20. As BT is prescription only and covered by the medicines act it could be claimed anyone using illegally obtained product is drug dealing and could be subject to criminal prosecution. Its shocking to recognise the unscrupulous nature of this practice. Apart from the obvious risk of giving a client Botulinum Toxin Poisoning, which can be fatal, the long term implications of unknown neurotoxins injected into the body are unknown. Cases of Botulinum Poisoning have been reported via the JCCP . It can kill you. Cheap Botox is cheap for a reason. If you don't care what your injecting into another human being perhaps its time to pause and re-evaluate what you are doing. Legal toxin obtained by prescription is expensive, prescription charges are expensive, medical malpractice insurance is expensive and all for good reason. If you injected with illegal BT you are not covered by ANY insurance. New legislation is coming soon, Practitioners will have to be licensed. Lets hope this will bring to an end the Wild West of Aesthetic Practice and Law Enforcement will come down on those who continue for 'sell' prescription only medication.

Why Register Your Business with Safe Faces. Aesthetics is reported in the press as being a largely unregulated industry. Aesthetic treatments for clients are often portrayed as the ‘Wild West’ out there. TV documentaries focus on ‘non-medic’ practioners but have little interest in any problems created by medics. There are many clients who have had poor procedures with medic and non-medic practioners. The playing field is uneven, and the target is biased. There is little doubt that clients are undergoing unsafe procedures with untrustworthy products in non-clinical environments. This is not confined to non-medics. Many medics do home visits, work in beauty Salons and gyms where a clinic environment is not established, no clinical waste measures are in place. There are many practioners who have trained with Training Centres & ‘Academies’ on a few days course with little or no underpinning knowledge. Trained by teachers who hold no accredited teaching qualification delivering courses that have no inspection process to ensure quality of content. Insurance companies have played a role by insuring practioners with scant regard to their fitness to practise and client safety. If you are an Aesthetic Practioner it possibly time to pay attention to the future. Change is coming. Regardless of your current qualification position by registering with Safe Faces we can guide you on your qualifications journey, directing you to training that is valid and future proof. The framework of new training and possible licensing to practice is not complete but it is coming. Join Safe Faces today, let your clients know you are practicing under current UK legislation with regard to impending change. Earlier this year the UK Government responded to the Health and Social Care Select Committee’s report on. The Impact of Body Image on Mental and Physical Health. The following proposals were made. How will this impact your business. The implementation of a licensing scheme for non-surgical cosmetic procedures by July 2023 • Specific standards for all beauty salons and non-CQC registered premises to comply with, overseen by Local Authority Enforcement Officers • Minimum standards of education and training to be met by practitioners, with training providers meeting an Ofqual-regulated standard overseen by the Professional Standards Authority • Dermal fillers to be made prescription-only substances. • The requirement to display a kitemark and warning logo on any advertisement for treatments that fall within the new licensing schemes scope. The government has confirmed that it is “Committed to supporting consumers to make safe and informed choices about any cosmetic procedure they may choose to undergo.” The Government has confirmed that it will: Be taking forward work to introduce a licensing scheme for non-surgical cosmetic procedures in England, however this will not be ready by July 2023. • Consider whether specific premises standards are needed and what they should include. • Work with the JCCP and other relevant bodies on nationally recognised standards covering the education, training, and qualifications of practitioners – it highlighted that the JCCP’s work in developing a competency framework was good. • Not make dermal fillers prescription only as, “Unlike Botox, dermal fillers cannot be covered by the existing prescription-only medicine framework because they are medical devices rather than medicinal products.” • Not make kitemarks a requirement, but will strengthen medical device regulation, including extending CE mark recognition as part of transitioning to a future regime, and the scope of regulations to capture certain non-medical products with similar risk profiles to medical devices – this includes dermal fillers. The JCCP said it will be reinforcing its concerns on the necessity for kitemarks and the safety of dermal fillers, emphasising, “We will continue to work with a range of pharma companies, pharmacies and the MHRA to consider alternative safeguards in both the supply chain and in terms of who should be entitled to administer such invasive procedures.” Overall, it’s great to see that the UK Government is listening to concerns surrounding aesthetic safety and is finally starting to take action to improve things. It is important to note the JCCP will not register Non -Medics on their Register. Safe Faces does not discriminate between Medics and Non-Medics. It has started a voluntary register of ALL Aesthetic Practitioners. To register you must provide current insurance details and your certificates to carry out the procedures that you deliver. Safe Faces is the only Voluntary Register for All. There are other registers, but they are no compulsory and discriminate against Non-Medics.
